Peptitler (Grekçe: πεπτίδια; “küçümencik sindirilebilirler”) teşhismlanmış bir düzende, α-amino asitlerin birbirine demetlanmasıyla oluşan endamsız polimerlerdir.[1] Bir amino asit lakırtııntısı ile başkası arasındaki bağ bir “amit bağ” veya peptit bağı olarak bilinir.[1]
Tetrapeptit (Oligopeptit)
Proteinler polipeptit molekülleridir (veya çok adetda polipeptit alt birimi barındırır). Omurga fark peptitlerin endamsız, polipeptitlerin/proteinlerin ise uzun olmasıdır.[1]
Protein sentezi sırasında her amino asit, öteki amino asite sabah akşam, kırılmayan bir polimer olan polipeptid zincirleriyle demetlanır. Polipeptid binasına zalimlan amino asitlerin her biri binaya peptid demetlarıyla demetlanır. Peptid bağının oluşumu sırasında amino asitlerden birinin amino grubu ile diğerinin karboksil grubu, aradan bir akarsu çıkması sonucu birleşirler.[1]
Averaj bir polipeptit zinciri 450 amino asitten oluşur.[1] Bilindik en uzun polipeptit, yaklaşık 27,000 amino asitten oluşan, kas dokusunda bulunan “titin”dir. Polipeptid zincirine zalimlan amino asitlere lakırtııntı (residue) adı verilir.[1] Zincirin bir ucundaki lakırtııntı, bağ yapmamış, özgür amino grubu barındırır ve N ucu olarak adlandırılır. Aynı şekilde zincirin öteki ucundaki özgür α-karboksil grubu olan lakırtııntıevet C ucu adı verilir.
